Question 1

What is Alter Vault?

Accepted Answer

Alter Vault is a privileged access management platform at alterauth.com built for AI agents—scoped identities, human approval flows, and audit trails for every credential an agent holds.

Question 2

Why do agents need PAM?

Accepted Answer

Agents hold standing credentials and take actions unattended—the exact risk profile PAM was invented to control for human admins. Without it, every agent is a shared-password problem that never sleeps.

Question 3

Alter Vault vs 1Password for Agents?

Accepted Answer

1Password for Agents (see our 1password-for-agents hub) vaults logins so agents never see credentials; Alter Vault adds enterprise PAM layers—scoped identities, approval chains, session audit—for compliance-heavy organizations.

Question 4

How do I start with agent PAM?

Accepted Answer

Inventory the credentials your agents hold today, migrate the riskiest standing keys to scoped agent identities first, and enable approvals only for genuinely consequential operations.
